As of today, Yemen remains a very tense and unstable country. Due to the length of time that the war has lasted, Yemen has never been given the chance to better itself. Yemen has security unlike any other country due to the dangerous violence having spread throughout the entire country. As of November 2018, during the five-year-long period, of civil unrest, there have been 6,872 civilians killed by the ongoing war with 10,768 people in total being injured. These numbers are still on the rise as the conflict has not stopped growing. Yemen is said to be the biggest UN crisis of 2018, with 24 million people in need of humanitarian assistance. The UN has tried to step in on multiple occasions yet there has been very little progression from their efforts. The UN has said that the short-term resolutions are actually doing more harm than they are good. A deadly disease, Cholera, is coming back to Yemen and ⅓ of the cases involve children under the age of 5 years old. Not only this, their economic situation is constantly disintegrating due to the 5 years turmoil. The UN special forces have been involved in battles with Yemen’s Houthi rebels trying to make a change but since the battle has been going on for so long, a finish line is not yet in sight. In the past four years, Houthis have transformed themselves from an isolated militia in Saada, to a local state that rules a bulk of Yemen’s north with an iron fist. The conflict has yet to be resolved today, and likely won’t be resolved until this issue sees more global awareness.
